Mo Adeniran Unbeatable On The Voice

By Suzi Cairns - Monday, 20th March 2017

The Voice is marching on towards its inevitable conclusion apace after four more acts were culled at the weekend. Mo Adeniran, Truly Ford, Into the Ark and Jason Jones were saved by their respective Coaches, after which the public made their choice by telephone vote. Craig Ward was put forward into the semi-final for Team Tom, Jamie Miller from Team Jennifer, Max Vickers from Team Gavin And Michelle Jones for Team will.i.am. There were two glaring realities after the evening’s entertainment, one that Mo Adeniran’s win looks entirely inevitable and the second that will.i.am’s decision not to save Tanya Lacey was ill-judged.

The evening itself, as ever ably hosted by Emma Willis, was to overly impressive. The performances by Truly and Jason were entirely contrasting and whilst ablest overly memorable and it was once again Adeniran’s night. Mo is inexplicably second favourite to win at 4/1, a short head behind Jamie Miller at 11/4 with duo Into the Ark in third place.

The bookies must be assuming that young girls are watching and voting to calculate the odds in this manner for Into the Ark were really not at all impressive and whilst a slick Justin Timberlake wannabe, the likelihood of Jamie converting a win into chart success is as likely as X Factor’s Matt Terry doing the same, which we have already witnessed is simply not occurring.

Mo however, has the sort of sound, focus and intensity in his delivery, that demands the audience’s attention and could easily convert to success in the music business. It really is hard to believe he can be beaten even with ballad belters like ex-backing singer Michelle, who always do well with Tv audiences. It is a surprise however that Tanya Lacey was not saved by her mentor.

Tanya has looked and sounded every inch the professional pop star from the outset and so it was no surprise when she first competed in the Blind Auditions when she revealed that she had been in the Industry and had in fact penned one of will.i.am’s chart hits. Maybe the voters assume that Tanya will be looked after by will no matter what the result is on The Voice is and so she doesn’t need their support and conversely maybe will did not put her through because he knew it might seem a bit suspect and he would look after her beyond this competition anyway.

ITV will not be thrilled by the success of their first run of The Voice with ratings dropping to an all time low since the format first aired in the UK, although its credibility could narrowly be saved if the record contract is won by Mo and a keen PR team is employed to find the right song for this young man.
