Love Island
Lisa Appleton's daughter has applied for Love Island we think she'd be brilliant
Friday 17th March 2017

Lisa Appleton is backing her daughter to get a place on this year's series of Love Island. The reality TV star and Who’ll Win columnist confirmed that Sophia Maria has applied to appear in the dating show – and she has all her faculties crossed for her.

Lisa said: "Sophia Maria has applied to appear in the show so fingers crossed!"

However ITV2, the home of the lust-heavy show, has not confirmed whether she’ll be one of the 11 singletons who will enter the luxury villa in the hope of finding love.

A spokesman said: “No decisions have been made on casting for the forthcoming series.”

Lisa is certainly the best person to coax her offspring in the, ahem, finer points of being a successful reality TV star.

She’s built a successful career from her time in the house thanks to her over-the-top exploits and larger than life personality.

Back in 2008 Lisa and her then-partner Mario Marconi caused chaos when they became the first couple to enter the Big Brother house. Can't remember? Let us jog your memory...

What do we know about the new series?

While an official date has not been released yet, it is likely the series will start around the same time as last year, late spring to early summer time.

Caroline Flack will return as presenter/matchmaker on the dating show. She will be joined by a panel of celebrity guests who will give their opinion about the contestants.

The series, set to be “hotter and sexier” than ever before, actively encourages singletons to pair together for a summer smoochfest.

This is what the official statement said: “As well as introducing this year’s fresh batch of Love Islanders, Caroline will also host a brand new weekly live studio show in the UK that will keep Love Island on everyone’s lips throughout the summer.

"With a panel of different celebrity guests each week, the show will offer viewers first reaction to the goings on in the villa, exclusive interviews with dumped islanders, and all the gossip from the sauciest and sexiest series to date."

Last year the show enjoyed record audiences - doubling 2015’s - with 1.3 million viewers. Not bad for ITV2.

Did anyone find love last year?

Yes – and some of them are still together. Winners Nathan Massey and Cara De La Hoyde are still loved up. Aaaaaah.

Love Island returns later this year on ITV2.
